FAQ – Frequently asked questions
- 1When is the next Basic VCA course coming up?
We hold Basic VCA courses every Sunday excluding holidays. You can check the nearest course date on the Basic VCA Course page or on the Upcoming Events page.
- 2Is the Basic VCA course difficult?
No, it is not a difficult course. It is enough to be at the lecture, listen and take notes, participate actively. This is enough to achieve a positive result on the exam.
- 3Who is Basic VCA training for?
Basic VCA is for anyone who works with any tool, machine, chemical, works in low or high temperatures, or in an environment that carries risk – at height, over water, indoors. In other words, Basic VCA should be had by anyone who deals with risk. This course is designed for both men and women.
- 4Is it true that Basic VCA is ONLY for builders?
There is a false belief that Basic VCA is related to the construction industry, but this is not true. Basic VCA is designed for workers in a variety of industries. The key word is actually “risk.” If you are dealing with any risk you should have Basic VCA.
- 5I am not familiar with computers. Can I pass the exam on paper?
Unfortunately, the paper version of the exam has become a thing of the past. Today, exams are taken electronically. In our training center we use tablets for this. It’s enough that you know how to use a “touchscreen” phone – then you can handle the exam without the slightest problem. Zero exclusions. Not familiar with computers? No problem – you can operate a tablet with your finger. Do you have weaker eyesight? No harm – you can enlarge the question to such a size that you can see it well. Are you a person with hearing impairment? You’re welcome – you’ll get headphones. In any of these cases you will be able to cope with the exam.
- 6Can I have my notes with me at the exam?
Unfortunately, no. The only thing you can carry with you is your ID. You must leave all study aids including notes, phones and smartwatches at the depository before entering the exam room.
- 7How long does the Basic VCA exam take?
The Basic VCA exam lasts 60 minutes. It consists of 40 single-choice and multiple-choice questions, forms and matrix-type questions – tables. All questions are closed questions. There are no descriptive questions, but instead there are situational questions. What to do in the described situation.
- 8How many mistakes can you make on the Basic VCA exam?
There is no simple answer to this question. The exam is about collecting points for correct answers. A total of 4000 points can be earned on the exam. That’s 100% of correct answers. To pass the exam and get Basic VCA certification for 10 years, you need to accumulate 65% of correct answers which is exactly 2580 points. The margin of error, therefore, is quite large.
VOL VCA Cursus
- 1When is the next VOL VCA course coming up?
We organize VOL VCA courses every two weeks. It is a two-day Saturday-Sunday course. You can check when the next VOL VCA course will be in the calendar on the right or on the Upcoming Events page.
- 2Is the VOL VCA course difficult?
It is more difficult than the Basic VCA course, it is true, but it is not impossible to pass. On one condition is that you speak your chosen exam language to the extent that you can read with understanding. If your knowledge of Dutch, English, German or French is at the so-called “communicative” level, this may not be enough to pass the exam.
- 3Can the VOL VCA exam be taken in Polish?
Unfortunately, no. The VOL VCA exam can only be taken in one of four languages. The choices are Dutch, English, German or French.
- 4I am not a manager and the employer requires me to pass the VOL VCA exam. Can he require me to do so?
According to the provisions of the Labor Code (ARBO), an employer has the right to tighten safety requirements in his company at any time. So, if your employer requires VOL VCA, then you must come to the course and take the VOL VCA exam.
- 5I heard that from January 1, 2025, every self-employed ZZP must have a VOL VCA. Is this true?
No this is not true. There is no such legal requirement for every ZZP-er to have a VOL VCA. Such fake news has appeared at the beginning of every year since time immemorial. The truth, on the other hand, is that more attention has begun to be paid to those who work overtime (e.g., on Saturday, when there are fewer executives in the workplace). And those who perform their tasks independently without managerial supervision. In both of these cases, a VOL VCA is required.
- 6Can the VOL VCA exam be taken with a certified translator?
Unfortunately, no. Neither with a sworn, nor with an electronic one. Imagine a situation where you come to take an exam with a translator. Who is actually going to take this exam you or the translator? You need to demonstrate language skills at a level that allows you to read freely with understanding. The point is that as the person in charge of personnel, you are responsible for taking appropriate action in an emergency situation. Imagine that there is a fire or an accident in the workplace. You are the only person with VOL VCA credentials. In what language will you notify the services? After all, you don’t go to work with an interpreter. In what language will you communicate with the Dutch investor? Or in what language will you get the technical documentation? Unfortunately, not in Polish. And no, this is not discrimination. We cannot require the Dutch to communicate with us in Polish in their own country.
- 7How long does the VOL VCA exam take?
The VOL VCA exam lasts 75 minutes and consists of 70 questions. Single-choice and multiple-choice, forms, and “matrix” type questions – tables. All questions are closed questions, but some of them are questions describing a specific incident in the workplace. Asking what you should do in a given situation.
