Accident Statistics in the Netherlands for 2021

The new year of 2023 has just begun. Although data on workplace accidents from last year is not yet available, it is worth looking back further and reflecting on the numbers. The general conclusion we can draw is that: Safety in the Netherlands improves year after year! However, there is still much work to be done.

In 2021, the Labor Inspectorate received 3,482 reports of workplace accidents. This represents a 5% decrease from 2020 and an 18% decrease from 2019.

This decrease is due to many factors, such as

  • changing regulations,
  • innovations in materials and tools,
  • new working methods,
  • the availability and use of personal protective equipment is another factor.

Above all, however, this state of affairs is due to better education and increased awareness of workplace risks, on the part of both companies and employees. We contribute to this, and we are very proud of it.

As you can see in the attached image, we cannot eliminate risks or accidents; however, we can strive to minimize their occurrence. We should especially work to reduce the percentage of accidents resulting in serious injury, which is currently at 13.7%, down to 0%.

Therefore, in the new year, we encourage you to take a responsible approach to safety, both for yourself and your colleagues, so none of you become part of this year’s statistics!

We would be happy to teach you how to ensure workplace safety during one of our Basic VCA training courses. During the course, you will acquire the knowledge necessary to work safely and confidently with the risks your job presents. You will also learn your rights and responsibilities, as well as those of your employer.
