Toolbox meeting – what is it?
It is a form of short training organized by the employer at the workplace, usually at the beginning of the day and during working hours. The meeting usually concerns one, maximum two safety-related issues.
The employer informs employees about its planned conduct before starting work. For example, a representative of the manufacturer of a new type of concrete can present what personal protective equipment is required when working with this material. In turn, the construction manager can provide important information about the newly introduced equipment, e.g. a crane and its scope of operation.
Participation in a toolbox meeting is mandatory and recorded each time – participants sign the attendance list. Unexcused absence, e.g. a “trip for rolls”, may even involve financial consequences.
Remember – a toolbox meeting is a serious safety training. It cannot be combined with other events, such as a joint breakfast or a company party. It must be treated as a separate, official part of the working day.
