P and H statements

PThe manufacturer of a dangerous substance or mixture must place the following phrases on the packaging:H (Hazard Statements) indicating the type of hazard andP (Precautionary Statements) indicating the precautions to be taken to work safely with a given substance or mixture.

The H phrases consists of:

  • letter H
  • hazard code (2 – physical hazard, 3 – health hazard, 4 – environmental hazard),
  • and two digits corresponding to the next hazard number.

Examples of phrases with “H”:

H200 Unstable explosives
H229 Pressurized container: heating may cause explosion
H261 In contact with water, it releases flammable gases.
H300 Swallowing may cause death.
H310 May cause death in contact with skin.
H332 Harmful if inhaled.
H400 Very toxic to aquatic organisms.
H413 May cause long-term adverse effects in aquatic organisms.
H420 Harmful to the environment through the destruction of the ozone layer.

 

The P phrases consists of:

  • letter P
  • digit indicating the precautionary measure (1 – general, 2 – prevention, 3 – response, 4 – storage, 5 – disposal),
  • and two digits corresponding to the next precautionary measure number.
P101 If you need to consult a doctor, show him/her the container.
P102 Keep out of reach of children.
P103 Przed użyciem przeczytaj etykietę.
P211 Do not spray over an open flame or other source of ignition.
P223 Keep away from water.
P283 Wear fire-resistant or flame-retardant clothing.
P310 Contact your doctor immediately..
P352 Wash with plenty of water.
P380 Evacuate the area.
P405 Keep locked up.
P410 Protect from sunlight.
P420 Store separately
